Ellie Niblock (b. 1993) is an Irish artist living and working in London and is an MA Fine Art graduate from Central Saint Martins. She completed a BA Hons in Textile Art, Design and Fashion in 2015.
She has worked with venues such as Yorkshire Sculpture Park, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Mark Rothko Centre.
Ellie’s sculptural work is part of The Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s permanent collection.
In 2021, she was a participant on Sky Arts television programme ‘Landmark’ producing a large-scale public art installation.
Ellie is a multidisciplinary artist. Her work combines sculpture and digital technologies, investigating the relationship between the physical and the digital worlds and how they co-exist. She navigates the intricate landscapes of memory, emotion, and experience. Through sculpture and digital technologies, she creates augmented versions of her memories and thoughts. Her practice embodies the tension between the familiar and the unknown, blending personal memories with altered interpretations.
The sculptures serve as portals of reminiscence, merging real memories with computer-generated ones—some of which may have once been tangible, while others are entirely new—simulating a dialogue between the brain and the hard drive.
The vivid physical and digital distortions exaggerate and visualize the invisible, creating heightened, euphoric depictions of recollections and mixed realities. Ellie’s works are simultaneously seductive and repellent, and she revels in the fine line between these sensations. Materials such as spongy foams and slippery silicones are used to amplify this tension.
